About This Location

The Linn Grove Quarry has been operating in Wells County since 1874 when David Meshberger began quarrying stone from the Wabash River in Linn Grove. Demand for stone increased over time in proportion to the increase in road construction. Eventually, the operation moved from the Wabash River site to a 100-acre nearby field and by 1922, the plant was turning out 500 tons of crushed limestone per day, aided by advancements in mining technologies. As demand intensified, the quarry grew, employing many locals from the community. In 2012, US Aggregates acquired the operation. The plant currently produces materials for INDOT and ODOT and the majority of materials quarried here are used by local counties and in local concrete production.
