About This Location
The Columbus Quarry is a vital supplier of infrastructure materials for the Bartholomew County region. Its stone products are utilized in key projects within the area like the Honda manufacturing plant in Greensburg, Indiana, and the 174 from New Point to Ohio. The original plant in this area opened in 1937 and portions of it are still in use today. Plant Manager, Steve Kistler, is a third-generation employee at the plant. His late father, Jim, and grandfather, Harold, also worked at the quarry. The current plant partners closely with its community, providing fundraisers, tours, presentations, etc. to the neighboring Rockcreek Elementary School as well as supporting local organizations like Columbus’ Love Chapel Food Bank, Brown County 4H, and the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
