Safety

As we close out the year, we’re proud to highlight the incredible efforts behind our Safety Rewards Program. The program is a cornerstone of our commitment to creating a safety-first workplace, and it empowers employees to go above and beyond by participating in safety training, emergency action drills and coaching their peers.

Throughout the year, each location worked toward earning incentives by accumulating points for impactful safety contributions and high-quality documentation. The goal is to reach 1,000 points, a milestone that demonstrates a team’s daily commitment to prioritizing safety. These achievements are driven by our Safety Champions, leaders who consistently maintain at least 250 points per quarter and participate in at least one emergency action drill annually. Their leadership sets the tone for a culture where safety isn’t just a priority, it’s a shared responsibility.

Safety and Health Representative Shayla Meinders thanks all our sites for their hard work and collaboration. This year’s submissions showcase the strength of our safety culture. “Together, we’ve built more than a program, we’ve built a movement that keeps every team member safe and supported,” highlighted Shayla. US Aggregates is thankful for the effort and creativity of all our sites’ submissions this year. This has strengthened US Aggregates safety culture and set the standard for excellence as we wrap up the season.

Read on for example submissions from some of our locations awarded the most points for the year.

Delphi: An employee built a custom stand to keep lockout-tagout (LOTO) papers organized and accessible. The stand includes a flat surface for filling out tags, a pen holder and a designated area for tags. This improved organization, compliance and efficiency.

243: A production team member cross-trained with QC, learning the full gradation process and reviewing safety practices. Fresh eyes on routine tasks helped identify potential improvements and reinforced safe, consistent operations

Francesville: Installed new shelving systems for greater storage capacity with a trougher and return roller rack to accommodate larger parts. After tagging spare motors for identification, they organized them on shelves and arranged oil drums on containment pallets too.

Portland: To keep tools organized and accessible for cleaning the feed silo, an employee created a custom solution using a PVC pipe painted yellow and mounted to a pole. This setup keeps all cleaning tools in one place, preventing them from getting lost or covered in material

Pleasant Mills/Linn Grove: Integrity Fire Solutions conducted fire extinguisher training where the team learned key tips, including how powder can settle and affect performance if extinguishers are jostled. They also reviewed proper usage and clarified that a 10lb extinguisher provides more powder, not more time.
