As Engineers Week 2023 draws to a close, we’d like to take this opportunity to recognize the amazing contributions of all engineers, including those who have helped make US Aggregates one of the best in the business. We are proud of all our engineers and are thankful for the hard work they contribute to our infrastructure and the safety of our job sites.
Today, we’d like to highlight one engineer in particular: Kristin Sweeney, Director of Operations and Engineering for US Aggregates.
When Kristin first entered the engineering profession as an intern in 2004, she was faced with a commonality within the construction industry; she was the only woman in operations. While she was surrounded by a supportive team, it was a team entirely made up of men.
When she joined US Aggregates in 2020, Kristin set out to expand her team of three and saw to it that more women were put in leadership positions within US Aggregates. Now a team of 13, Kristin and her engineering team create mine and environmental plans, use drones to conduct site surveys, and work on large capital expenditure projects to improve the safety and performance of mining sites.
Kristin has made great strides in breaking down barriers for women in engineering. As one of only a few women in a leadership position within this male-dominated industry, she is paving the way for other women who are looking to make their mark in engineering fields. She is leading by example and inspiring young girls and women everywhere who want to pursue careers in STEM fields or any other traditionally male-dominated field.
As Engineers Week comes to an end, let’s take a moment to recognize leaders like Kristin Sweeney who blaze trails for others while making meaningful contributions within their industries. At US Aggregates we couldn’t be prouder!
Thank you and your engineering team for your unwavering commitment, Mrs. Sweeney! You are truly an inspiration!
