In the aggregates industry, operating with sustainability in mind is imperative and a part of responsible practice. Sustainability at US Aggregates is all about reducing our environmental footprint, promoting resource efficiency and ensuring a greener future for generations to come.

Starting this season, we are proud to introduce our new Sustainability Champions program.  Each plant location will now have a Sustainability Champion who leads sustainability initiatives and shares sustainable practices with their fellow employees. The program empowers employees to lead by example, fostering a culture where sustainable practices are at the heart of our projects and operations.

Environmental Manager Laurie Webb says the Sustainability Champions will be a conduit between The Heritage Group and the 18 US Aggregates locations. “They will help to lead projects that will make a positive impact on their plant’s environmental footprint,” Laurie shared. “These volunteers have stepped-up to help make this new program a success, and I can’t wait to see what we will accomplish this year!”

We are proud to celebrate our 16 new Sustainability Champions, employees who are passionate about sustainability and eager to lead projects that will have an impact on their sites and communities. Hear what some of our Champions are looking forward to most:

  • “As a Sustainability Champion, I’m excited for the opportunity to help identify areas for improvement in energy, waste, and other related areas.” – 243 QC Technician Tyler Helton

  • “The resources we have now are the same resources our future generations will need. I have the opportunity to teach and encourage others to do their part in protecting those resources through the Sustainability Champion program.” – Ridgeville Plant Clerk      Autumn Remley

  • “The Sustainability Champion program offers an exciting opportunity to merge creativity, efficiency and teamwork in an effort to reduce waste and give back to our environment.   I have always had a passion for repurposing items and reducing redundancy and waste everywhere I am.”  – Springville Plant Clerk Tessa Gratzer

The program focuses on several key themes that align with our commitment to minimizing our environmental impact, including energy, waste, water and habitat based projects.

Together, we are building a brighter, more sustainable future, and we couldn’t do it without the passion and dedication of our Sustainability Champions. We are excited to see how these efforts unfold across our sites and thank our champions for their commitment to sustainability. Stay tuned for future project updates from our Sustainability Champions throughout the 2025 mining season!
