The mission at US Aggregates® is to build long-term relationships and mutual trust that turns big challenges into big opportunities. A wonderful example of this mission is unfolding at our Swisher plant in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Swisher plant specializes in producing gravel and sand for the Greater Lafayette area. The plant’s proximity allows for the cost-effective supply of building materials, ensuring tax dollars are spent efficiently on construction rather than transportation. As the community grows, the demand for these aggregates increases, highlighting the plant’s crucial role in regional development.
Part of turning big challenges into big opportunities is US Aggregates’ commitment to being strong community stewards. The company takes responsibility for leaving an impact on West Lafayette’s growing community by sharing its material resources and sustaining the environmental resources we work in daily.
To prioritize environmental stewardship, we have implemented innovative methods to reduce diesel fuel consumption and protect water resources. Our Swisher plant uses a closed-loop water system, ensuring that any water leaving the site is cleaner than when it entered and ensures we are taking care of our water resources.
The closed-loop water system is part of our larger Swisher reclamation plan with Prophetstown State Park, where we aim to create recreational areas post-mining, benefiting the community with new camping areas, fishing lakes and trails.
“US Aggregates has been very proactive in understanding the developmental direction of the state park, and it’s very rare for something like this to take place,” said Prophetstown State Park Manager Jason Getz. “It’s a win for the mining operations, a win for the state park and huge win for the visitors that come and enjoy the area.”
Over the last few years, US Aggregates has made contributions to other local projects such as the Wabash River Fest, research at Purdue University and Klondike Middle School. By listening to the needs of our community, US Aggregates build a community where future generations can flourish.
“I would say that US Aggregates is truly a class act. They know what it means to become part of a community,” shared Tippecanoe County Commissioner Tom Murtaugh. “It’s been a great win for this community and we’re extremely grateful for US Aggregates.”
US Aggregates is grateful to be a part of the larger West Lafayette community and thanks its partners and the community for their continued support.
