Richmond Leadman Austin Nutt has been with US Aggregates® for over six years. His first role was as a laborer at our Richmond location. Before joining the team, Austin worked eight years at Miami Valley Plastics, a small family–owned plastic molding injection facility specializing in making custom livestock products located in Eldorado, Ohio.

Austin’s daily responsibilities as a leadman consist of making sure his coworkers stay on task and know what their job duties are for the day. He also ensures everything is completed in a safe and timely manner. Austin shared that being a leadman is a lot like being a utility player in baseball, you have to be able to play all positions and fill in and help wherever needed.

Richmond Plant Manager Michael Coning is thankful for Austin’s leadership. “He has stepped up as leader for the crew here and is highly involved in day-to-day planning and operational success,” shared Michael. Austin has also been eager to complete leadership and safety training classes when the opportunities arise.

Austin’s favorite project was being a part of the conveyor and hopper move when he first started at Richmond. The project showed him what the team was capable of when they worked together. Being a leadman is all about teamwork, and growing up with a sports background, this is a comforting feeling for Austin. He said, “There’s nothing like the bond you build with your coworkers, it’s special and they are your second family!”

When asked about advice for new miners, Austin recommends taking a lot of notes to help with remembering key project details. For new leadman, he encourages them to lean on their coworkers and recognize that you can’t fix every problem yourself. “The Management Vitals class at The Center was super helpful for how to be an effective leader as well,” highlighted Austin.

Outside of work, Austin can be found spending his time with his wife and two children. If he’s not spending time with family, he is generally working on his truck or watching sports.

Austin closed with his appreciation for the small family feeling he gets working at US Aggregates every day. He spotlighted Richmond Plant Manager Michael Coning and Area Operations Manager Brandon White for the support they’ve provided across his journey of growth in his career and as a man. “They are great assets to US Aggregates and are always willing to help out,” shared Austin.

US Aggregates is beyond grateful for Austin’s leadership and willingness to always improve processes! He consistently inspires his coworkers and is always there to support his Richmond team.
