Pleasant Mills Leadman Justin White has been with US Aggregates for 17 years in May!
Justin began his career in the mining industry after high school where he worked for Stone Street Quarry. He worked as an equipment and plant operator for three years. Afterwards he worked for a fencing contractor for two years before working for Meshberger Brothers in 2008. US Aggregates acquired Meshberger Brothers in 2012 across Pleasant Mills, Portland, Linn Grove, Ridgeville and Fairview locations.
Justin started working at US Aggregates as a primary plant operator for a year and then transferred to pit loader for four years. In 2021, he became Leadman and Secondary Plant Operator.
Plant Manager Kris Grandlinard values Justin’s skillsets and ability to lead. “He brings a lot of knowledge of the operation of mobile equipment and fixed plants,” Kris shared. “I know if I task him with a project, it will get done, I don’t have to worry about things when I’m away.”
His daily responsibilities include morning kickoff meetings with the team to cover daily goals and objectives, leading safety meetings, scheduling maintenance, ordering parts and training employees. During production season he runs the secondary plant and manages the scheduling of plant production and all drilling and blasting needs.
Justin recommends that new leadmen keep an open mind and listen to the team around them. “You can learn just as much from a new employee as you can from an experienced miner,” Justin noted. He also expressed that leadmen should be willing to step outside of their comfort zone and accept new challenges.
In his leisure time he enjoys working on the farm, fishing on Lake Erie and hunting.
Justin wanted to spotlight his crew for being such a great team of people to work with. He has really enjoyed building a motivated team around him and working through challenges together.
