Initiated in 1925 by then Commerce Secretary Herbert Hoover, a former mining engineer, the Sentinels of Safety Award program remains the most prestigious award in the mining industry.
This award is co-sponsored by the National Mining Association and the US Mine Safety and Health Administration. A minimum of 4,000 injury-free hours are required for consideration.
Swisher’s safety record surpassed 1178 similar operations nationwide to win this award.
